The Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson kiss that never was.
A few months ago, Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay said that she and actor Christopher Meloni filmed a scene for the show that ended up getting cut. In the scene, the two locked lips—which would have sent some fans into overdrive, given how long fans have been rooting for the two to finally get together.
People magazine caught up with Meloni to get his take on the scene that never made it to air. The actor didn’t have much to say, responding with just two words: “No comment.”
Fans have been hoping and praying that Stabler and Benson would ride off into the sunset and their relationship (platonic or otherwise) is often discussed on Reddit. In 2025, one fan shared some photos of Meloni and Hargitay on set, appearing as though they might kiss.
“As a shipper of this pairing, I would suggest going into this episode expecting nothing to happen.The scene will be very well acted by the two of them but there won’t be a kiss. I do think if they were to actually kiss it won’t be filmed outside for fans to see and take pictures and spoil it. A kiss will be a huge moment and they’d want to keep that a secret as long as possible if that were to ever happen,” one Redditor commented on a thread.
“Honestly. They belong together, and I feel like Kathy would give her blessing. Olivia deserves this type of love. She’s given so much of her heart and soul to the ppl of manhattan. I wish this for her,” someone else said.
Stabler and Benson have come very close to locking lips, but SVU fans will have to keep dreaming—for now.
