A WWII Spitfire is hoisted onto the back of a lorry – after falling off a trailer on a busy road.
The antique jet brought traffic to a standstill on the A3 near Guildford, Surrey this morning when it unexpectedly landed on the tarmac.

Just moments before it was being transported on a trailer which had overturned.
Long tailbacks developed as police and recovery services attended the scene on the southbound section of the road.
A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “At around 11.15am today a vehicle with a trailer attached carrying a light aircraft was travelling on the motorway when the trailer became detached and left the road before colliding with a tree.
“There were no reports of any injuries but the road remains partially closed whilst the trailer and aircraft are recovered from the scene.”
Spitfires provided the backbone of the RAF during the Battle of Britain.
The single-seat fighters remained in service until 1955.
